2010 Community Leadership Awards Recipients
The Portland Regional Chamber is pleased to announce the four winners of Community Leadership Awards to be presented at the Chamber's Annual Dinner, sponsored by MEMIC, on September 16, 2010. In its 156th year, the Chamber's Annual Dinner attracts over 600 business and government executives each year.
The winner of this year's Henri A. Benoit Award for Leadership in the Private Sector is MaineHealth. A nonprofit corporation devoted to building a family of healthcare services offering high quality, cost-efficient preventive care, Maine Health is being honored for their contributions to our region's health care, job creation, and economic expansion. The Neal W. Allen Award, for Leadership in the Public Sector, is being offered to Gov. John E. Baldacci. Having served Maine in the state's highest office for eight years, the Chamber is proud to present the governor with this renowned award.
For Economic Development, the Robert R. Masterton Award will go to the University of New England. With campuses in Biddeford and Portland, the University has seen the construction of five new buildings in the past three years, contributing to economic growth in numerous industries throughout the region. The President's Award will be presented to Richard Connor of MaineToday Media Inc. Connor's group acquired the Portland Press Herald / Maine Sunday Telegram in March. The purchase has revitalized the publication, contributed to our community, and strengthened its ties to the Portland region.
