South Portland High School Career Fair
More than 45 businesses and 400 South Portland High School sophomores and juniors participated in the second annual Career Fair. All businesses who participated have been invited to the SP/CE Community Chamber's Annual Meeting on June 7th at the Purpoodock Club, and also have been invited to the third annual Career Fair on May 1, 2013! Sheree Inman, South Portland High School Career Fair coordinator, will be at the June 7 Annual Meeting to discuss the event.
"On behalf of South Portland/Cape Elizabeth Community Chamber Board President Ed Palmer and the rest of the Board, I would like to say what an incredible success the second annual Career Fair was! From the business perspective, the value of networking with future employees, advising on educational career paths, and having an open communication between the school system, its students, and the business community is extraordinarily valuable. Explaining to the students what our businesses do, and answering their questions as they investigate their futures and "how to get there from here", benefits all stakeholders. We are proud to partner with the South Portland School Department in this initiative," said Jane Eberle, South Portland/Cape Elizabeth Community Chamber Board member.
Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting at Dickey’s Barbecue & Chicken, Maine Mall Food Court

On Friday, April 13th, South Portland Cape Elizabeth Community Chamber Board members Craig Gorris, Emma Lishness, and Russell Voss represented the Chamber at the ribbon cutting and grand opening of Dickey’s Barbecue and Chicken at the Maine Mall. Jim Elkins, a member of the Greater Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors and owner of Career Planning Services, attended on behalf of the regional chamber.
Located in the Food Court of the Maine Mall, Godfrey Wood is the CEO and Sid Wood is the Operating Owner. It is the South Portland / Cape Elizabeth Chamber’s newest member and serves a range of Texas-style slow-roasted smoked barbeque meats, side dishes, and desserts. Dozens of people were on hand for the opening, with more than 100 people receiving complimentary meals in the first two hours.
“We’re all about supporting local businesses,” said Voss. “Whether it’s organizing networking events, attending openings, or providing advocacy services, we’re here to support our members.”
