Since its 1985 inception, our Eggs & Issues speaker series has become Maine’s largest networking breakfast and the Portland Community Chamber of Commerce’s signature event. In just the past year alone we have welcomed the Governor of Maine, Portland’s City Manager, as well as the CEOs of LL Bean and Martin’s Point Healthcare.
Every year, the Chamber has more speaker proposals than we can accomodate, due to only having 10 events per year. With the event routinely drawing more than 300 guests and being broadcast on digital TV and YouTube, Eggs & Issues has been a powerful platform for speakers to address issues, rally people to their cause, or highlight life in the Portland Region. We have decided that because the demand for a high-level speaker series is there, Eggs & Issues will be joined by an after hours networking and speaker event. Kegs & Issues will present a similar format – networking, a short speaker presentation, and refreshments, except with beer from local brewers instead of bacon and eggs.
Kegs & Issues is also aimed at a younger demographic, and its speakers and topics will focus more on local initiatives and issues, such as workforce development, technology, housing, transportation and talent attraction. There will be four editions of Kegs & Issues in the pilot season, and we anticipate each event to draw in excess of 150 people. This event will be held in conjunction with PROPEL, the Chamber’s young professional group.
The first year will also see Kegs & Issues rotating venues, to provide some variety as well as exposure for the unique event spaces in our region.
