"Teaching Time to Walk" with Nate Tucker

When we play music live, time becomes our medium. Our relationship to time is ever-changing and rich in metaphor; in the words of Paul Celan, We shell time and teach it to walk: then time returns to the shell. Sometimes we play with audience expectations and sense of stability, while other times we must confine our own personal expression to a pulse that is larger than us. With this program, we invite our listeners to think about stability and flux, how we go with the flow and how we can disrupt it. This program features a collaborative new commission by percussionist, electronic musician, and composer Nate Tucker.

Jonathan Byrd is a preacher's son, a Gulf War veteran, and an award-winning songwriter from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, known for literary, outsider songs that have become Americana favorites. The Chicago Tribune called Byrd "one of the top 50 songwriters of the past 50 years."

Earlier this month the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Institute for Family Owned Business handed out the checks to the four Spark! Awards recipients. Bob Dylan has influenced every songwriter in one way or another and has been part of the fabric of our lives for generations since the 60s. Tonight four of New England's premier singer/songwriter/musicians Folk/Blues get together to play the songs that span Dylan's long career. Come celebrate Dylan's birthday month with musicians who will have both classic and unique takes on his songs.

 PORTLAND/BANGOR, ME –Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood. That’s why NEWS CENTER Maine was proud to once again join forces with the American Red Cross for a statewide blood drive held this past Wednesday, March 27.

Two Sides of The Classical Guitar will feature a full guitar rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody, Classical gas, and other classical guitar favorites such as Recuerdos del Alhambra. The evening will feature original pieces as well as the favorite songs we know and love.

Belfast, Maine — A Grant Writing Certificate Program will be offered Monday through Friday, April 22–26 and again June 10–14, 9 a.m.–4 p.m., at the University of Maine Hutchinson Center. Nonprofit leaders, executive directors, municipal officials, board members and others interested in creating high quality grant proposals for their organizations are invited to register. This is an intensive program and participants can expect to walk away with a well vetted
grant proposal.
