MAINE - Girl Scouts of Maine proudly announces that Catherine Lamson, SVP and Chief Administrative Officer of The MEMIC Group, and Quincy Hentzel, President and CEO of Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce, will be honored as Girl Scouts of Maine Women of Distinction in The Room on September 13, 2019, at The Westin Portland Harborview.

For more than two decades, Girl Scouts of Maine has celebrated women of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. These women of distinction are thinkers, dreamers, change-makers. Their bold vision reveals the innovator and risk-taker within...traits we encourage girls to embrace.

This year the annual event takes on a new persona as The Room, forgoing a formal sit-down dinner to make way for an engaging and fun, themed celebration to include delicious food and cocktails, games, live auction, and networking opportunities all evening. Previously known as The Women of Distinction Gala, the refreshed event continues the tradition of honoring women whose individual excellence and high levels of achievement distinguish them as outstanding members of their communities and exemplary role models for today's girls.

“Girl Scouts provides a unique, girl-led experience where girls can develop lifelong skills and take on leadership roles,” said Joanne Crepeau, CEO, Girl Scouts of Maine. “Although great strides have been made, women remain underrepresented as entrepreneurs and industry leaders, particularly in STEM fields. Girl Scouts has programs committed to increasing girls’ interests and abilities across disciplines, from becoming an astronaut to taking charge in the boardroom. When girls see women like Catherine and Quincy succeeding in leadership roles, it lifts their aspirations and gives them the confidence to pursue bold careers. This is one of the many reasons we are thrilled to honor Catherine and Quincy, who are both incredible role models for women of any age.”

As an exceptional leader, Catherine Lamson is a role model for girls and women to strive for success and senior leadership roles within their industries. Girl Scouts applaud Catherine’s passion and initiative in becoming part of the national Million Women Mentors movement, as Maine’s Chair, leading a call to action to provide millions of STEM mentoring relationships to girls and women to help them choose, persist, and succeed in STEM programs and careers. Encouraging girls to follow their dreams in science and technology is a hallmark of Girl Scouting.

With her embrace of diversity and entrepreneurial spirit, Quincy Hentzel’s efforts focusing on women in business are helping to transform the leadership landscape for women in the Greater Portland community. Quincy’s efforts in building networking opportunities, such as Women of the Chamber, support women as they explore their potential and take on leadership positions. Like Girl Scouts, Quincy is dedicated to creating an atmosphere in which girls and young women can build confidence and create positive change in their communities.

Community members and business leaders are invited to join Girl Scouts of Maine in The Room as they honor Catherine and Quincy as extraordinary role models, dedicated to empowering girls and young women to reach their fullest potential. The Room will be held on September 13, 2019 from 5-8PM. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit girlscoutsofmaine.org/theroom.
