PORTLAND – Maine Community Foundation has awarded grants totaling $26,000 to support hospice service programs in York and Cumberland counties.
Grantees include:
  • Chaplaincy Institute of Maine, to strengthen the community through support of curriculum and training for grief, end of life and bereavement services, including through internships and public workshops
  • The Center for Grieving Children, to increase capacity to recruit, train, and retain the number of volunteer facilitators necessary to meet both current demand and future projections
  • VNA Home Health Hospice, to create a virtual reality simulation program to help clinicians and caregivers understand and empathize with patients at end of life
The next deadline for Hospice Fund grant proposals is February 15, 2020. Applications are encouraged from nonprofit organizations in Cumberland and York counties for projects that raise awareness of hospice and bereavement programs, increase utilization and/or quality of end-of-life services, and support hospice volunteers.
