I am pleased to announce that we have hired Alexandra Polkinghorn as our Bicentennial Editor to lead the wide range of State 23 Media's initiatives for Maine’s Bicentennial in 2020. Alexandra, formerly of WSJ Magazine, The New York Times, Refinery29, and Vanity Fair, grew up in Falmouth Foreside and is the granddaughter of the Bangor Daily News’ longtime outdoor columnist and sportswriter, Bud Leavitt.

As Maine celebrates its 200th anniversary of statehood this coming year, State 23 Media is launching a yearlong, robust and ambitious content and live-journalism package that commemorates the people, places, and things that have molded Maine’s culture over the last two centuries.

Maine magazine will showcase present-day Mainers who promote and elevate our state, and will shine a spotlight on the organizations and leaders forging Maine’s path into the next century. Maine magazine’s September 2020 Commemorative Issue will serve as the authoritative showcase of Maine’s story, taking an incisive look at the present and future of this extraordinary, complicated, and geographic wonder of a state.

Maine Home+Design will take a yearlong look at the importance of preserving Maine’s historic homes, commercial properties, and landscapes in its Bicentennial Preservation department. Maine Home+Design’s September 2020 Commemorative Issue will examine the prolific design that has come out of the state over the past 200 years.

Additionally, on September 24, 2020, State 23 Media will host a Bicentennial Celebration in Portland to honor Maine’s past and celebrate its future. This unforgettable party will also serve as the largest commemoration of Maine magazine’s annual 50 Mainers feature by inviting the upcoming 2020 class and all past honorees.

Please contact Alexandra Polkinghorn at apolkinghorn@themainemag.com if you have ideas for stories to be told in the Bicentennial Section of the magazines and Publisher Orion Poulin at opoulin@themainemag.com if you are interested in advertising in our Bicentennial Section or being a cosponsor at our Bicentennial Celebration in September.

With Alexandra on board, our team at State 23 Media is thrilled to be celebrating the rich history of Maine with our community during this monumental year.
