NEW TENANT AND EVENT VENUE AT THOMPSON’S POINT

 Repositioning of former industrial space brings veteran producer, musician, and event/music promoter DARREN ELDER of THE HALO STUDIOS to Thompson’s Point with a cutting edge event and performance space called “Halo at the Point”

THOMPSON’S POINT, PORTLAND, ME — Thompson’s Point is excited to announce the arrival of its newest tenant, The Halo Studios, who will be taking over the 6,800 square foot space formerly occupied by Circus Maine at the “Brick North” building, which is also home to Big Room Studios, Bissell Brothers, Cellardoor Winery, Color Me Mine, the International Cryptozoology Museum, Locally Sauced, and Stroudwater Distillery.

 Dubbed “Halo at the Point”, this cutting edge event and performance space, with a capacity of approximately 400 (or greater depending on the nature of the event), will feature a range of customized lighting controls, proprietary acoustical treatments, and production capabilities to support a dynamic range of events. From performance, live music, and photo/video production to corporate events and weddings needing customizable lighting and sound, Halo at the Point “will be the Swiss Army Knife of venues,” says Halo’s Darren Elder. “The improvements the Halo team is making to the space will position it to offer whatever our clients need for their events,” Elder continues. “Combined with our team’s experience in all aspects of sound engineering and production, we plan to make this a truly unique venue that can offer our clients literally whatever they need and deliver the level of excellence that they require.”
 
Halo at the Point will collaborate with nearby Brick South Catering Company to provide bar service for those events that require it as well. “The Brick South venue and its team have a track record of exceeding expectations,” says Elder. “This extraordinary venue, which is second to none in this market, and this group of professionals who make it a success are a big part of our desire to come on board and collaborate to continue to make Thompson’s Point the dynamic neighborhood that it is.”
 
Halo at the Point will open its doors officially in January, 2019 after making a variety of lighting, acoustical, and other upgrades, but it has taken on selected event bookings during the next several weeks. 
 
“We are thrilled that Darren Elder and his team from Halo have decided to join us at Thompson’s Point,” says Thompson’s Point principal Jed Troubh. “They have earned tremendous respect in the event industry and are considered among the best of the best when it comes to delivering unique programming, top quality production, and hands-on expertise, and having them as a tenant is especially exciting as it helps the Point take another decisive step in being Portland’s destination for arts, culture, and entertainment.”
Thompson’s Point is led by Troubh and his partner and fellow principal Chris Thompson. Since the project began in 2009, the thirty-acre property has evolved from a derelict former railroad yard to a vibrant, mixed-use neighborhood bringing together a wide variety of Maine companies and family-focused entertainment. Thompson’s Point is home to a successful 8,000 person summer concert venue in partnership with the State Theatre that takes advantage of its expansive lawn and views of the Fore River; in addition to the Brick North building, it also includes the Brick South Event Venue (accommodating events of all kinds up to 2,500 people), and a seasonal outdoor ice skating facility with a large rink as well as a dedicated kids’ rink. Additionally, the Children’s Museum and Theatre of Maine will be moving to the site with a newly constructed building expected to open in 2020, and Thompson and Troubh plan to move ahead in 2018 with the 148-room “Hotel Portland,” part of the Tribute Portfolio by Marriott.
