Realtor Ties Success to Giving Back to Small Businesses and Non-Profits in 2020

Benchmark Real Estate owner donates $100 to Portland Buy Local for every 2020 sale

Portland, Maine - Benchmark Real Estate owner Tom Landry is known for giving back. His company donates 10% of profits each year to support local charities and runs several charity events of its own. In 2020, he’s tied his and his team’s success with giving back. For all 2020 sales, he’s donating $100 to Portland Buy Local and another $100 to the nonprofit of his clients’ choosing. He recently delivered the first half of his team’s installment to Portland Buy Local, totally $4,000. Meaning another $4,000 has been delivered to area nonprofits.

“These are very uncertain times. The traditional ways of giving may be too risky for most business owners,” said Landry. “By giving back incrementally and matching success with donations, we can still make a difference while protecting our own business.”

Mary Alice Scott, Portland Buy Local’s Executive Director said, “we’re grateful for Benchmark stepping up in this way. These funds will help to ensure that we will continue to exist as a resource, advocate, and connector for our local small business community.” She added that donations like this are vital as her organization did not qualify for federal and local COVID relief programs. Landry commended Scott for her work, saying, “Portland Buy Local’s advocacy and guidance has been a lifeline for Portland’s many struggling small businesses this year.”

While the market was slow to pick up in 2020, Landry said his industry is fortunate that real estate bounced back later in the summer. He challenged other businesses in his shoes to find ways to give back. “If your business is one of the lucky ones, think about tying your success with giving back. A rising tide should lift all boats, and we need all the boats to weather this storm!”
