He has served as the MBTA President from 2002-2003 and 2015-2016, and has been a MBTA Board Member since 1993. Steve has led his profession in advancing new technologies and has been a tenacious and loyal advocate for transportation, stepping up to help the MBTA at every critical juncture.

Sawyer stated “I was shocked and humbled when I got the news.  This is a wonderful honor and I am eternally grateful to the MBTA for bestowing it on me.  I have been an active member of this terrific transportation advocacy organization for over 25 years, including serving as its President twice.  While the membership is quite diverse, we all share a common commitment to improve the transportation system here in Maine for the betterment of our economy and quality of life.”

MBTA is the largest transportation organization in the state with 700 members. The award ceremony celebrates and recognizes leaders who have made a significant impact on transportation in Maine. Among past recipients of the MBTA award is U.S. Sen. Susan Collins. This was the 13th Maine Transportation Achievement awards ceremony, attended by 200 construction, engineering, insurance, banking and consultant industry professionals.
