Virtual Event: Sea Change Yoga’s 2020 Yogathon, originally slated to take place at Ocean Gateway in Portland on March 29, will now be a virtual event, open to anyone who would like to participate in a day of yoga, community, and other mindfulness practices. The event, now from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, is free to all and available via Zoom and Facebook Live.
Yogathon is Sea Change Yoga’s largest annual fundraiser, supporting the organization’s mission to bring the healing power of yoga and meditation to Maine communities that are underserved and marginalized. As the threat and spread of COVID-19 has changed Mainers’ daily way of life and shifted the way our communities come together, Yogathon event organizers are determined to deliver a yoga experience that feels nurturing, peaceful, and communal – delivered straight to participants’ homes and shared across the state and beyond.

“Even though we’re physically distant from others, we hope that this day of virtual practice can help us find strength in our collectivity, and know that we’re all in this together,” says Sea Change Yoga Executive Director Elise Boyson.

Virtual Yogathon 2020 will feature two 75-minute yoga classes from celebrated yoga teachers Jacqui Bonwell and Robin Ivy Payton, followed by several 30-minute sessions of guided meditation, breath practice, a self-massage workshop, yoga for addiction recovery, and kids yoga. The detailed event agenda and virtual participant registration are available at seachangeyoga.org/yogathon .

While the event’s fundraising goals will be impacted by the cancellation of the in-person event, Boyson sees the new circumstances as an opportunity to reinforce the organization’s mission. “Our work is offering yoga as a tool to heal, as a way to help with emotional regulation, and to provide some peace in a noisy world. Right now we are all feeling the need to slow down and reconnect. Our broadened goal for Yogathon under our new reality is to provide these opportunities for anyone who would like to join.”
