Kathryn R. Pierce, Executive Director
The Board of Trustees of the Susan L. Curtis Foundation (SCF) is pleased to welcome Kathryn R. Pierce as Executive Director. Kathryn holds a Masters in Public Administration from the Fels Institute of Government (University of Pennsylvania). A strong advocate for collaboration as a necessary step toward solving any social sector issue, Kathryn brings substantial experience in developing strategic partnerships to maximize mission impact, as well as knowledge of nonprofit strategy and capacity building from her past work as a Consultant at TCC Group. Most recently, Kathryn was a Program Officer with the Maine Health Access Foundation where she developed a deep understanding of the impact that Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) have on youth development. Kathryn is particularly cognizant of SCF’s critical role in helping mitigate the impact of ACES by developing youth resilience through supportive, trusting relationships. Kathryn joined the Susan L. Curtis Foundation as Executive Director on April 8, 2019.

Matthew Cyr, Board Chair
The Board of Trustees of the Susan L. Curtis Foundation (SCF) is pleased to congratulate Matthew Cyr on his election as Chair of the Board of Trustees. Matthew is a LEED AP Project Manager at Zachau Construction in Freeport. A graduate of the University of Maine at Presque Isle, Matthew has over 17 years of construction industry experience and resides in New Gloucester with his wife and two children. Matthew has served on the Board of SCF since 2015. He is also a member of the ACE Mentoring Program Board of Directors. Matthew’s two-year term as the Susan L. Curtis Foundation Board Chair began January, 2019.
Susan L. Curtis Foundation and Camp Susan Curtis Since 1974, the youth development programs of the Susan L. Curtis Foundation have been teaching critical life skills and character development to economically disadvantaged Maine youth from grades three through 12, removing barriers and shifting the trajectory to a path of promise and potential. Referred by their schools, youth return to Camp Susan Curtis year after year, transitioning as teens to CSC’s Bridge (SpARCs) and Leadership Development programs which continue with post-secondary access and career exploration programming. Camp Susan Curtis hosts about 500 Maine boys and girls ages 8 to 18 to teach life and leadership skills, including financial responsibility, visual arts, environmental stewardship, and literacy activities, in a residential camp setting. The majority of CSC Youth return year after year: 99% percent of those completing CSC’s leadership program graduate high school and 82% advance to college or other forms of post-secondary education or training designed to lead to a credential of value. The Camp’s award-winning programming is fully sponsored for every child by donations from corporations, foundations and individuals. Administrative offices are located in Portland.
