PORTLAND, Maine; BOSTON, Mass.; and WESTPORT, Conn. (August 17, 2020) – Verrill has joined the Law Firm Antiracism Alliance (LFAA), a nationwide coalition of law firms focused on combating racial injustice.
Established in June 2020, the LFAA brings together approximately 250 law firms and legal service providers from across the country, leveraging their collective resources to promote racial equity in the law and in government institutions through education and pro bono initiatives.

“Joining the LFAA demonstrates our commitment to take meaningful and effective action to end racism.  Antiracism work is also a continuation of our efforts to ensure Verrill is a diverse and inclusive workplace,” explained Jacqueline Rider, Chair of Verrill’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee.

Verrill has supported a number of initiatives related to diversity and inclusion in its respective communities, including as a founding firm of the Maine Diversity Summer Associate Program for diverse first-year law students. Verrill attorneys have also partnered with outside organizations to host in-person programs and webinars on building an inclusive workplace, as well as publishing related content, such as the “Support for the Black Lives Matter Movement” blog series for employers. Earlier this year, the firm signed the Connecticut Bar Association’s “The Connecticut Legal Community’s Diversity & Inclusion Pledge” and the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce pledge, “Standing in Solidarity Against Racial and Social Injustice.”

Verrill’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee is also leading efforts to educate its own workforce by offering tailored trainings, including the introduction of required diversity and inclusion continuing education credits for each of its employees to further demonstrate the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion.

About Verrill: Verrill’s deep-rooted history dates back to 1862. Today, Verrill is a full-service law firm with more than 130 attorneys and seven offices throughout the Northeast. The firm’s attorneys provide award-winning client service to businesses and individuals across the country and around the globe in a variety of areas and industries, including construction, energy, food and beverage, health care, higher education, manufacturing, technology, and telecommunications, among others.
